To backpackers, this is an iconic site. It is the trailhead for hiking up Mt Whitney but also it is where the John Muir Trail (JMT) hikers exit their 220 mile long journey

Everyone that exits the Whitney Portal Trailhead heads over to the Portal Store for some great food (They have great hamburger's)

As you walk the trail between Whitney Portal and campground you are blessed with this beautifully peaceful creek
